On the last Sunday of every month entry to the Vatican Museums is free for the 4 hour period that they are open. On such days the queue (always seemingly a minimum of 1 hour from its end to the entrance) is about three times as long.

The Queue itself is an impressive object, lined up along the extraordinary wall designed by Michelangelo that surrounds the building complex. More poignant is the knowledge that many of the visitors will have such a limited amount of time to view the collection, acquired over 500 years that includes some of the most important artefacts and artworks from Western Art History.
